Joey Dunlop is arguably one of the most famous racing motorcyclists in the world. A local legend, his career includes three hat-tricks at the Isle of Man TT, where he won 26 races in total. He was crowned Formula One World Champion five times between 1982 and 1986, and won countless local road races including 24 at the Ulster Grand Prix and 13 at the North West 200. He was awarded an MBE in 1985 for his services to motor cycling and an OBE in 1996 for his charity work bringing food and aid to children in areas of Eastern Europe.

Joey Dunlop was killed on 2 July 2000 during a race in Tallinn, Estonia. His funeral was attended by over 50,000 mourners as motorcycle fans from around the world travelled to Northern Ireland to pay their respects.
